DRIVER FAILS TO STOP PONSONBY ROAD CASE Widespread inquiries were made throughout the city yesterday by the police in an endeavour to trace the driver of a motor-ear that knocked down an elderly man, Mr. David Mac(jiregor, who was about to board a tramcar at the corner of Ponsonby Road and I'icton Street at about G.'iO on Saturday. Mr. MaeGregor, who is aged G.'i, and lives at I Richmond Itoad, Grey Lynn, was taken in a St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, suffering from head injuries, fractures of both logs and an arm and a dislocation of the left shoulder, lfis condition last night was reported to be serious. MISHAP AT POINT CHEVALIER MAN ABOUT TO HOARD TRAM An accident occurred at a tram stop near the Point Chevalier Fire Station shortly after six o'clock on Saturday when a man about to board a tranicar during a heavy downpour was struck by a motor-ear. The man was Mr. Theodore Smytho, of 57 Point Chevalier Road, who suffered a broken ankle and extensive lacerations to the right leg. After being assisted by the driver of the car, by a St. John Ambulance officer and Mr. H. Sands, of the fire station, ho was removed to the hospital in a St. John ambulance. • NEWMARKET INCIDENT PARKED CAR DAMAGED After colliding with a touring car that had been left standing on the northern side of Khvber Pass, Newmarket, early on Saturday night, a motorist drove off and disappeared before any bystanders had time to do anything. In addition to extensive damage to the body, the parked car had its rear axle smashed. Owned by Mr. Joseph Gavin, of 10 El in Street, Avondale, it was unoccupied at the time of the accident. CARS AND SAFETY ZONES EARLY MORNING COLLISIONS Newmarket's two safety zones were struck by motor-cars in the early hours of yesterday morning. Shortly before one o'clock the zone on the outward line, near the corner of Remuera Road and Broadway, was struck heavily by a touring car driven b.v Mr. Harold Raymond Barriball, of Waiuku. Although the car was almost wrecked, the driver and his two passengers, Miss T. Hays and Mr. S. Masters, both of Waiuku, escaped with cuts and bruises. The zone suffered little damage. Three hours later the safety zone on the inward line, opposite tho Royal George Hotel, was struck by a touring car driven by Mr. Jack Gordon Somersfield, of 154 Ladies' Mile Road. The driver, who was alone in the car, escaped unhurt and the car was slightly damaged about the radiator and front bumper bar.
