PORTUGUESE GUINEA
NEGOTIATIONS BY GERMANY REPORTS OF TRANSFER (Received August 23. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 22 The Berlin correspondent of the Morning Post says it is persistently reported that negotiations are in progress between the German and Portuguese Governments for the transfer of Portuguese Guinea, West Africa, to Germanv.
Portuguese Guinea is situated on the coast of West Africa between the British territories of Gambia and Sierra Leone and is surrounded by French territory. It has an area of 22,000 square miles and produces rubber, ground nuts, hides and wax. The chief port is Bissao.
