WORK IN THE VEGETABLE GARDEN
Sow asparagus, cabbage and. cauliflower for succession. Sow more early carrots and turnips. Dig-in the green manuring crops in time to allow of decomposition before planting is undertaken. On volcanic land the main sowings should he made in good time before the soil becomes too dry. Where svinach is in frequent demand make fortnightly sowings. Onion seeds should be sown at the first opportunity to make good any shortage of plants. These may be thinned out; not transplanted. The Fruit Garden Any grafting of fruit trees may be undertaken when the sap is rising freely. . Early tomatoes under glass should have plenty of fresh air, and a drier atmosphere. A humid temperature should be kept in the vinery to encourage early growth. The strawberry bed will appreciate a good top-dressing with manure.
