TALE OF TWO DOGS
ONE CAUSES ACCIDENT COW IN A MOTOR-CAR •OTHER BRINGS AID TO MASTER [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, August 13 Here are stories of two cattle dogs one whose undisciplined action brought about an amazing accident, and the other whose faithfulness and intelligence saved his master from much suffering. The "villain" began his bad work bv pursuing a cow across a paddock near Grafton, on the North Coast. The cow, maddened by the dog's vicious snapping at her heels, struck a motorcar in her blind rush, and then jumped into the car, which contained several men. two of whom were severely injured. The car was of the touring kind, and the cow was able to jump over the hide. Her horns ripped the hood, and she finished with her head protruding above the hood, bellowing loudly. Sho trampled on one man and pinned another against tho side of the car, and the other men had great difficulty in releasing them. ... One man suffered severe injuries to the ribs and right side, and another received injuries to a hand and knee. The side of the car was damaged, the windscreen was smashed, and the hood was partly ripped off. The dog had to be chased away before the men could remove the cow, which was not injured, from the car. The faithful dog; brought assistance to his master, who was injured in a. fall into a, storm-water channel at Banstown. a Sydney suburb. Emanuel Bulmer was on his way home when he took a short cut across a paddock. He did not see the storm-water channel until he fell into it, and in the fall he received a fracture of the thigh, | which prevented him from getting out. His dog ran into the street, and by frantic barking soon attracted the attention of passers-by. They summoned the ambulance, but then a new complication arose. Ihe dog bared his teeth whenever the helpers approached his'master, and nothing could be done for Buhner. The difficulty was solved when Buhner's wife was called. She quieted the dog, and Bulmer was taken to hospital.
