BUTTER MARKET FIRM
NO CHANGE IN HIICES CONSUMPTION SATISFACTORY CHEESE VALUES FLUCTUATE The London price for New Zealand butter lias been maintained at up to 119s per cut. for choicest salted. The market is Jinn and steady. The Primary Products Marketing Department has received advice from it:-' London office that the butter market continues firm. .Retail prices are still low compared with wholesale value. Consumption is satisfactory, although the margarine consumption for Auglist is higher than last year. Cheese is firm. White is selling at tho high figure of up to 69s per cut., a further rise of about Is. Coloured is about Is lower at 65s per cut. A Press Association message sent from London on Thursday states that butter is slightly more active. Cheese has sharply risen owing to short supplies. The statistical position is very sound, with a definite shortage of spot stocks compared with last year. Merchants have received the following cablegrams, dated August 14, from their London principals:— A. H. Turnbull and Company, Limited, from W. Wcddol and Company, Limited. —Butter: Danish, 128s; New Zealand, salted, 119s; Australian, 118s. Cheese: White, 68s; coloured, 655. Both markets are firm. Allen and Findlay, Limited, from Armour and Company, Limited. —Butter: The market is steady. Salted, 117s to 119s; nnsalted, 118s to 119s. Cheese: The market is firm. White, 68s to 695; coloured, 64s to 655. THE WEEKLY REPORT MARKETING DEPARTMENT Tho Primary Products Marketing Department has received the following market report from its London office dated August 14 (figures for the previous week being given in parentheses) : Butter.—New Zealand: Salted, 118s to 119s (equals approx. 14.1 id f.0.b.) (116s to 117s); nnsalted, 118s to 119s (117s to 118s). Deliveries: New Zealand, 1681 tons (last year 1648 tons); in stoi'e, 5274 tons (last year 6005 tons). Australian: Salted, 117s np to 118s (115s to 116s); nnsalted, 116s to 117s. Deliveries: Australian, 768 tons (last year 1114 tons); in store, 2708 tons (last year 5500 tons). Argentine: Unsalted, 108s to 110s (104s to 106s). Danish: 107s f.0.b., 127s to 128s spot (105s, 125s to 1265). Siberian: Salted, 109s to 112s (108s to 110s). Ukranian: 110s to 112s Qoßs to 110s). Polish: 104s to 106s (103s to 104s). Lithuanian: 110s to Ills. The market is steady. Retail prices, unchanged, New Zealand, Is 2d; Danish, Is 3d.
Cheese. —New Zealand: White: 68s to 68s 6cl (7.68 c! f.0.b.) (63s to 645); coloured, 64s 6d to 60s 6d (7.23 d f.0.b.) (61s to 61s 6d). Deliveries: New Zealand, 24,008 crates (last vear 26,894 crates); in store, 67,559 crates (last year 121,964 crates). Australian: White, 66s to 66s 6d; coloured, 64s to 64s 6d. The market is firm. Kctail prices unchanged, New Zealand, 7d and Bd. Canadian: White and coloured, 66s to 68s (64s to 655); c.i.f., 67s 6d; old season's, white, 78s to 82s (76s to 82s). The market is firm. Deliveries: Canadian, 5303 boxes (last year 3851 boxes); in store, 67,075 boxes (last year 44,695 boxes). English: Finest farmers', 72s to 76s (70s to 745); factory, 58s to 64s (57s to 60s). The market is quiet.
MEAT PRODUCERS' BOARD
ELECTORAL COMMITTEE PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED The result of a postal ballot, which was conducted lor the purpose of electing delegates to represent the various districts on the electoral committee of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board lias been announced. The committee meets in Wellington on Wednesday and Thursday to consider the 14th annual report and accounts of the board.
