the: junior red cross The monthly meeting of the Northcote Women's Progressive League, held in the parish hall yesterday afternoon was largely attended. The president, Mrs. A. Campbell, who presided, welcomed Mrs. Elliott as a new member. The League agreed to organise the collection at Northcoto lor the St. John Ambulance Association. An interesting talk on the Junior l!ed Cross was given bv Mrs. Stringer, a sister of the Red Cross, and Mrs. I). P. O'Loarv, Mrs. A. Campbell, and Mrs. I?. Martin were appointed to deal with Red Cross mat tors. In connection with the movement for legislation for the endowment of motherhood, delegates were appointed to attend a meeting of the New Women's Club when a general discussion of the proposal will take place. An address, entitled "Around the Levant," was given by Mr. Watson Arthur. Songs were given by Miss Clarice Sharpe, who is leaving shortly to continue her musical studies in Australia. She was presented with flowers arranged with a silver horseshoe for good luck. Mrs. T. .101 l was the accompanist.
The president relerred to the death of Mrs. J. Cook, of Auckland," and said she had taken a keen interest in thi! Northcote League since the war. The gathering passed a vote ot condolence to the relatives. Similar motions were passed in respect to bereavements to Mrs. A. Sterling, Miss Wadham, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. J. W. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Munro, and Mrs. H. J sherwood.
