METHODIST LADIES' GUILD
COMPETITIONS AFTERNOON The members of the _ Kingsland Methodist Ladies' Guild 'held their annual competitions afternoon in the Jubilee Hall, Kingsland. yesterday. In addition to members of the guild there was a large and representative attendance of members from other guilds, including Mount Albert, Roskill, Eden Terrace, Great North Road and St. George's Anglican. In welcoming members and friends, the minister of the church, the Rev. S. J. Werren, spoke briefly of the advantages of inter-church social contacts, and apologised for the absence, owing to illness, of the president, Mrs. Heape. A most enjoyable programme followed, the items including a pianoforte duet by Misses G. Rvan and L. Shortland, vocal solos by Misses Rita Thomas and Maida Davison, and a vocal duet by Misses Thomas and Davison. The programme concluded with an amusing one-act plav, " Widows," presented by Mesdames W. Ryan, H. Baxter and Miss Ryan. A novel biscuit competition was won by Mrs. Hodgson. During the past weeks members have been engaged in making articles of less than one shilling in value. These provided the main feature of the afternoon when they were arranged in a varied and excellent display for judging by Mrs. Armitage, who afterwards commented briefly on the exhibits. Prizes were awarded to Mesdames Baxter, Gubb, Dawson and Werren. The displayed goods were then sold, a very satisfactory sum being raised. Afternoon tea served by members concluded a most successful afternoon.
