CAREER OF MONEY MINE

RETURN AFTER LONG SPELL

Mr. J. M. Samson was not only the original owner of Royal Limond, but also of Money Mine, a double winner at Biecarton. Money Mine, who broke down when winning the Hunt Cup yesterday, had been of) the scene for Dearly four years until he reappeared as a steeplechaser at the end of last season. He is now 12 years old and, in spit« 0 f }jj s long absence from tho racecourse, he has contested more races than fall to'the lot of most gallopers. in one of his half-dozen appearances as a two-year-old, Money Mine deadheated in the Dunedin Handicap with Arrowy. As a juvenile, lie was produced .'34 times for throe wins, and at four years, he was a competitor in »37 races, winning six and being placed in ,15 rnnre. Twenty-six races as a five-year-old were productive of four wins, but in the.two following seasons he ran 19 times without success. He was not 6een again until he ran at tho D.J.C/. meeting iu June. As a four-year-old he began tho season for Mr. Samson, who passed him on to C'. Geiseler, who in turn sold hi r in at the end of the season to his present owner, Mr \Y ■ Swale, for whom he is trained by H. Morton.

It is exceptional to see any liorso Btnye a come-back alter such a long period of retirement, lint Money Mine must have a constitution, in spite °f liis unsoundness. He is by Paper Money from Martifors, a Martian mare afterwards was sold to go to Australia.
