YOUTH FOR CHRIST

UNIVERSITY MEETINGS ADDRESS BY ARCHBISHOP A side of the "Youth for Christ" campaign, the main effort of which is to be made in Auckland next week, has been proceeding with marked success at the Auckland University College throughout the present week. Addresses followed by general discussions have been given each day during the lunch hour and have been attended by an averaga of 71) students. All shades of opinion have been revealed in the discussions, and tho interest that has been created was shown yesterday when it was decided to hold a further meeting to-day, although no speaker has been provided. The lined for right thinking about God was stressed by Archbishop Avenll, who was the speaker yesterday. He emphasised the danger of superficial think, nig and of being led aside by caricatures. Creeds were 110 hindrance to thought. They were like a fence round a great heritage of knowledge within which there was plenty of room for unfettered thought.

A great deal could bo learned from science, reason, conscience and nature about God, but they all had their limitations, and for a true conception a higher knowledge and the emotional instinct of love were necessary, said the archbishop. He dealt with the tremendous claims and challenges compelling belief in the life of .Jesus Christ and with the conception of God revealed by Him.

Widely divergent points of view were expressed by students ill a discussion led by the chairman, Mr. A. M. Cliisliolm, and the l!ev. W. W. Averill, which followed. The mistakes caused by attempts to fit God into human category, and the responsibility for natural disasters, were subjects discussed arising from the archbishop's address. The responsibilities attaching to the acceptance of the joys and privileges of a Christian dispensation and the need for practical return in some form of social service were stressed by the Rev. M. G. Sullivan.

The Hev. W. W. Averill, the Hev. W. Bower Black and Dr. A. Hodge have been other speakers during tho week.
