STRIKE IN MELBOURNE

BUILDING TRADE DISPUTE UNION OFFICIALS' THREAT (Received July 20, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, July 26 The officials of the building trade unions in Melbourne are threatening to call a stop-work meeting of all building workers on Monday unless the master builders give an assurance that they will not close down jobs again. There seems every likelihood that the dispute, which is due to the demand of carpenters and joiners for a 40-hour week and increased pay, will spread next week. At present about 1000 men are idle.
