RUNNING DESCRIBED FOOTWORK BEATS HAVERING VICTORY FOR THE SURGEON [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday Look Smart was sent out a slightly bettor favourite than Redolent for the Hadlow Hurdles at Timaru to-day, but after making play in front for over three-parts of tho journey, she surrendered her placo to Havering, who led over tho last fence. The latter appeared to be an easy winner, but commenced to weaken a hundred yards from the post, and Footwork, finishing very fast, got up to beat him. Look Smart was a moderate third. Royston, favourite for the Pareora Steeplechase, led all the way and, giving a faultless display, had a decisive will. The contest for tho South Canterbury Steeplechase was affected to some extent by Nocturnus, who had acted as pacemaker from the start, hitting the sodwall half a mile from home and unseating his rider. The mishap left High Speed a long way in front of Dunmure, who had lost much ground through a bad effort at tho previous obstacle. High Speed completed his task well and easily accounted for Dunmure, Night Parade, who returned very lame, was. 50 yards away. Favourites in Dividends Silver Coat and Rose of Traleo disputed favouritism in the Levels Hack Handicap, and they paid dividends. Golden Vision and Silver Sail piloted Silver Coat, Roso of Tralee and Silver Lark to tho straight entrance. Koso of Traleo shot through on the rails as soon as heads wore turned for home, and soon put the issue beyond doubt, winning well from Silver Coat, who outstayed Golden Vision. Royal Buck and Bandy Boa staged an interesting tussle over tho final stages of the Toschemakcr Hunt Cup Steeplechase. Bandy Boa and Royal Buck jumped tho last fence abreast, but, although there was never much between thorn in tho run to the post, [{oval Buck always held his rival safely.

Tippling made a onc-horso raoo of the Hunters' Plato. Tippling ran to the front turning for homo nnrl soon opened.up a gap to win decisively from Aeena, who hold on to comfortably beat tho favourite, Gay Boa. A Sterling Eflort

Queen Dorothy was responsible for a, sterling effort in winning the Washdyko liaelc Handicap. Rebel Lad. Honour's Lass, Queen Dorothy and Jack Ahoy were abreast entering the straight. Queen Dorothy went on to win well from Rebel Lad, who stayed on to beat Honour's Lass. Jack Ahoy was three lengths away, a head in front of Capo Gabo. In a good pool in the Claremont Handicap, Mount Val was a much better favourite than Bay Duke, and his prieo for second was the smallest of the day. 15ay Duke and Shock set a fast pace from the outset and raced abreast round tho top turn, six lengths in front of Ada and Golden Dart, with Mount Val and The Surgeon handy. Shock was done with early in tho run home and Bay Duke did not last much longer. Tho Surgeon asserted himself a hundred yards from tho post and, although challenged strongly by Mount Val, who finished very stubbornly, he won handily. Acla was a good third.
