EVENTS ON SATURDAY ANNUAL ROAD CONTEST SAVIDAN AGAIN SUCCESSFUL The annual road rac-> for the Savidau Cup was held on Saturday from the Pakuranga Hall, East Tamaki, to the Kllerslie Post Office, a distance of 5} miles. The New Zealand champion, J. \Y. Savidau, captain of the Auckland team, led all the way and won the cup, named after him. in the good time of •'SOm lis. I. J}. Neil, captain of the Presbyterian team, was s'ocond in ;JOm 50s, and J. JJirtwistle, Auckland A team, was third in .'!! m .'i.'is. Tho teams raco for the White Cup Was won by Auckland A, with 21 points, Presbyterian, ,'{s points, being second, and Technical A team, >l~ points, third. Tho handicap event, run in conjunction with the championship, was won by It. Linfoot, of tho Presbyterian Club. 11. F. Hoys (Presbyterian), was second, and I). Kenrick (University), third. The runners, officials and members of the Kllerslie Amateur Athletic Club, under whose control tho contest was held, met in tile Kllerslie Town Hall after tho race, when tho prizes were presented by the president, Mf. A. Law. Tho Savidau Cup, presented by Mr. A. E. Kohii, was awarded to J. W. Savidan for fastest time. Savidan also received the Court Cup won by tho Auckland team, while medals were presented to Neil, second fastest time, and Uirtwistle, third fastest. It. C. Linfoot was presented with tho Whiio Cup for the winner of the handicap race, and medals were awarded to 11. P. lioys, second, and I). Kenrick, third. The scoro in the teams raco was:—Auckland A, '2l; Presbyterian, 35; Technical, -17; University, 5514; Papatoctoe, 72; Technical, 101. CALLIOPE CLUB The Calliope Club held a run in junior and senior packs on Saturday in preparation for the clut) championship next Saturday. A. Clow, the present club champion, is now quite fit and the only senior member likely to challenge him for senior honours is \V. Clapham. Charman and Wallace should also finish well up. In the juniors N. Ambler, a first-year runner, has already proved his value, and it is expected that he will »uld to his list of wins next week. Houlihan, if he runs" true to form should lie second, while Hall should bo third. The A team to represent the club in the provincial championships will be chosen arter the run. UNIVERSITY CLUB The University Harrier Club field a very lone ran of about 11 miles, starting from Mission Bay, on Saturday. The trail led over to the Orakei villains, and via Orakei point, round the back of the Orakei I! as in to Lucerne Road. thence to Meadowhnnk Road, across Lake St. John to Mount Wellington. The homeward trail led past St. Thomas ruins to Kohimarama, and thcncC to Mission Bay. A. Ball was first home, followed by H. Maxwell, F. Vallanco and J. Wills.
COMBINED CLUBS' RUN Members of the Baptist Ifarrier Club were the guests of the Presbyterian Club on Saturday at a run from the Mount Eden Presbytrrian Church. About 50 runners took part. Prominent, in tho slow fmek wore \\. !). Reevlcy, Baptist, and B. Dovitt, Presbyterian, while hi the intermediate pack, (J. Davidson and 11. Laft. of Presbyterian, were always to the fore. In the fast pack a (rood race was iwiintained throughout-. J. Ilislop and Buchanan. Presbyterian, and V. It. Knight. Baptist, being most prominent. Afternoon tea was provided by the Mpunt Eden Presbyterian Men's Association. Mr. R. M. Lynburn, on behilf of the association, welcomed the runners, remarking on the great enthusiasm shown. Mr. 11. Young, deputy-captain, welcomed the Baptist members. and Mr. 11. Whitton, of the Baptist Club, replied. Results of the runs in were as follows: — Slow Pack.—B. Dcvitt, Presbyterian. 1; K. DUNEDIN, Sunday Owing to steady rain and the consei|uent condition of the grounds, ltujrby matches and practically all forms of outdoor sport were abandoned on Saturday.
