LOVELOCK'S DECISION
RUNNING IN 1500 METRES BOOT AND MATTHEWS IMPROVE LONDON, July 21 Tho Dnilv Sketch says the Now Zealandcr, J. E. Lovelock, lias decided to compete in tho 1500 metres event at the Olympiad in view of the lact that Matthews is running >» t!l ° metres. Thus Lovelock will probably meet Wooderson, who beat him in the British championships. \Vooderson_ is attempting both tho 800 and 1000 metres. Lovelock will also meet the American, Glenn Cunningham, who deprived him of the world's mile record, and the Italian, Beccali, tho winner of the distance in the Olympiad at Los Angeles. , Dr. Porritt says he is not worried by Lovelock's display against Wooderson at the White City on July U. 110 has come on a lot since then, and has now regained his peak form. Lovelock states that the Now Zealand representatives, Boot ami Matthews, found the adaptation of their style to cinder tracks slow and painful, hut they appear to have turned the corner, and should now progress rapidly.
