NAZI DECREES
DANZIG LEADERS DRASTIC RESTRICTIONS INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM BAN ON COMMISSIONER By Telegraph—Press Assnr ! ntion—Copyright (Received July 'JO, 7.."> p.m.) LONDON. July 20 The president of the Senate, Ilerr Greiser, has introduced drastic regulations to restrict individual freedom. These are considered to be tantamount to the abolition of the Constitution.
Herr Greiser is expected to take action against Opposition news-
papers. One of the new regulations is understood' to be based on an order issued in 1933 granting extraordinary powers to the Senate, which The Hague Court declared to be unconstitutional. Another decree restricts the freedom of the Opposition parties and extends the period for which a person may bo kept in "protective custody" from three weeks to three months. The League's Commissioner, Mr. Sean Lester, has departed on a fishing expedition. He cannot take action against the regulations until the Opposition complains of injustice. The Danzig correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says Herr Greiser's coup apparently is a derisory gesture toward Poland. It has caused renewed tension, it makes political complaint to Mr. Lester a criminal offence. Herr Forster, the Nazi leader, declared that Mr. Lester's activities were making Danzig a cauldron of unrest and Bolshevism. Henceforth the Nazis would carry out political pacification without Mr. Lester, who was inciting the Opposition to the prejudice of peace in Eastern Europe. PROTEST TO LEAGUE CABLEGRAM REJECTED MR. LESTER'S EXPERIENCE PARIS, July 19 L'lntransigeant reports that when Mr. Lester sent his secretary to cable a protest to the League against Herr Greiser's decrees a clerk replied that the telegram would not please Herr Forster, the Nazi leader. Accordingly, Mr. Lester was forced to motor across the frontier and send his cablegram from Gdynia, the port of Poland.
