WORKMEN INJURED
POST OFFICE DEMOLITION . SHORTLAND STREET ACCIDENT-. Two men vrho were standing on top of the strong-room of the old Shortfand Street post office when it was being demolished yesterday afternoon escaped serious injury when the masonry crumbled unexpectedly and them from a height of over 12ft. amid a shower of loose bricks and mortar. The younger man. Mr. Victor Jack, aged 24, of Grafton, suffered cuts to the head and slight internal injuries. His father, Mr. George Jack, escaped with minor injuries.
The strong-room was the last; portion of the building to be razed, and a winch and cables were used to bring it down, workmen assisting with crowbars and jacks. Power was applied to the cables without result, and the two men climbed to the top of the strong-room to adjust the cables. A large crowd was in attendance when the structure suddenly toppled over, carrying Mr. Jack and his son with it.
The crowd was given a display of firstaid treatment when Mr. Victor Jack Avas attended to amid the fallen brickwork. Both men were taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance, and .were conveyed homo after treatment in the casualtv ward
