It. Semple, on his return to Wellington from an inspection of railway works in the South Island, t
" The reports I have received from district engineers of the department all over New Zealand are most encouraging," Mr. Semple said. " The men on the' jobs arc all working hard and honestly and are showing a desire to give of their best. Public works employees are ' stepping on it ' everywhere. I am more than pleased at this bocause Ave as a Government have tried to give a lead, and I personally have told the men that I expect a decent return of labour.
" The change in atmosphere on public works during the last few months has been almost revolutionary. The. men are giving service and the country must benefit accordingly."
