CIVIL SERVICE POLICY

AMERICAN ADMINISTRATION Various aspects of public administration in the United States were referred to by Mr. F. B. Stephens in a lecture last night under the auspices of the Auckland branch of the Institute of Public Administration. Dealing with the United States civil service, Mr. Stephens saiil the Roosevelt administration had resulted in Democrats obtaining favourable consideration in the matter of employment in tho Government service, 90,000 people in 1935 being appointed to positions in new departments on political faith alone. It was significant that the Civil Service Commission in the United States comprised two Democrats and one Republican.
