NEW LINER'S TRIALS
UNION COMPANY'S AWATEA [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Saturday The Union Company's new liner Awatea i.s to run her trials 011 the Clyde from noon on July 25 until the morning of July 28.
The Awatca was built at Barrow-in-Furness by Viekers Armstrong, Limited, fo>- the Union Company's intercolonial passenger and mail service. She was launched on February 25 and was christened by .Lady Bledi.sloe. The vessel's tonnage is about 1 1,000 gross and her speed will be about knots. She is expected to make the passage from Auckland or Wellington to Sydney in about (30 hours. She has accommodation lor -100 first-class, 160 tourist and 40 third class passengers. She is a twinscrew turbine-driven vessel with a raking stem and a cruiser stern. It is expected that she will leave England on August 5 and arrive at Wellington about September 2.
