PROGRAMME THIS EVENING The programme which (ho Auckland Boxing Association will stage at. the Town Hall Mi is evening should provide thrilling and spectacular entertainment, in accordance with the type of fighting which has characterised the sport, during the past six months. Tho principal professional contest, will be between "Young" Delunoy, the newly imported Australian light-weight boxer, and Neville Mudgway, of Waihi, who has produced such fine fighting form against Cyril Pluto. The preliminary professional bout, will he between Lance l'ailiter, of Auckland, who, will ho making his debut as a professional, and Sid. Wells, of Whakatane. Delaney comes from Australia with a fine reputation ns a boxer and fighter and is regarded as a coming star. These factors induced tho Auckland Boxing Association to hring him to New Zealand. Mudgway has been showing Rood form in the gymnasium, and ho is keen to beat the Australian, particularly as it will further his claims to another fight with Pluto. Both aro fit. and well and the contest promises plenty of thrills, which should also he seen in tho other professional bout. Painter has a long list of amateur successes to his credit, including tho winning of the Auckland and Now Zealand amateur heavy-weight championships. Wells also brings a reputation for hard fighting. An excellent amateur programme has also been arranged in support. WELTER-WEIGHT TITLE STIRLING DEFEATS HUGHES [BY TELEGRArH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNI3DIN, Sunday Fighting strongly and confidently Don Stirlinn scored a decisive victory on points over Archie Hughes in a 15-round contest for the welter-weight boxing championship of New Zealand last night. Tho bout, which was fast and willing, was witnessed by a good house. Stirling gave a much better showing than in hit' recent limit uith TTnirhei hut tho tnitirhness and clever defensive work of tho little ex-Australian enabled him to make the contest full of interest. The lattor's preparation has been interrupted owing to an operation to an eye. The contest is regarded as one ol tho big ring events of tho year.
