GUARANTEED PRICES
CO-OPERATION ANTICIPATED FARMERS AND POLITICS [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday "I feel that the Farmers' Union is being used as a political catspaw by political parties for their own benefit," said Air. W. T. McCaw at a meeting of the North Taranaki Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union, when discussion took place on the attitude of the union toward guaranteed prices.
" "The Opposition does not agree with the guaranteed prices and is stirring up the farmers against them," Mr. McCaw continued. "We promised the Government our co-operation. It is bringing in guaranteed prices, and, if we do not give co-operation and tho scheme fails, tho. Government will turn round and say thai we had ourselves to blame." The opinion of the recent Dominion conference was that guaranteed prices did not necessarily mean State control of the produce, said the president, Mr. H. E. Blvde. However, he thought they could take it that tho farmers would help as much as they could. "They are quite right in stating that the farmers disagree with the Government taking control," said Mr. W. Maloney, "If we state our opposition we should leave it at that, from then on assist the Government."
