The Abel Tasman before drifting over the bar struck the sunken wreckage of the collier Kaponga which waa lost at the north tip head in 1932. The Abel Tasmana approximate position is marked with a cross. The lowor photograph wa» taken after the wreck of tho Kaponga and shows the vessel a ß round cloaa to. the north, breakwater.
