LADIES' TENNIS TOUR
TEAM FROM GREAT BRITAIN COMING VISIT TO AUSTRALIA Australia is almost certain to have a visit froni a British ladies tennis team during the 11)37-38 season, llie English international match committee last month reversed its decision made early in May declining the tour. It has now recommended that a women s team should visit Australia in 1937, and it is regarded as certain that the recommendation will be adopted. I'ivo players will probably bo included. The 1937 Wightman Cup match between Great Britain and U.S.A. will be played' in America. The English players will probably continue their journey to Australia. Should the Wightman Cup players form the team, Australian tennis enthusiasts would indeed bo fortunate. Probably no country in the world has so ninny players with attractive and free-stroking styles as Great Britain. The players likely tc be considered for tlio tour are; —Misses K. Stammers, 1). Bound, M. 0. Scriven, S. Noel, l<\ .James, A. Yorke, M. Hardwick, M. Wiiitniarsh, and Airs. M. R. King. Undoubtedly, the most attractive player to Australians would be Miss Kay Stammers, a stylish left-hander, who is aged 22 years. Last year Miss Stammers defeated nearly every leading player in the world, including Mrs. Moody, and Miss H. Jacobs, the No. 1 and No. 2 players of the world. Miss Stammers, who recently retained her English hardcourt championship, is ranked No. 3 in tlio world list of Mr. A Wallis Myers. Miss Dorothy Hound would again prove an attractive visitor, particularly as in Misses J. Hartigan, T. Coyne, and N. Wynne, Australia has playors fully capable of defeating her. Miss "Peggy" Scriven, the French champion in 19313 and 1934; Miss Susan Noel, one of the best tacticians in the game; and Miss Mary Hardwick, a fine stylist, would all be welcomed.
