SUPPLY OF POWER
BEQUEST FROM KAIKOHE PERMIT FOR LOCAL PLANT MINISTER PROMISES LICENCE [by TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] DAROAVILLE, Tuesday A promise that ho would grant a licence to the Kaikohe Town Hoard to instill a plant for the pur pose of nonerating its own electric-power was given by the Minister of Public Works. Hon. I!. Sample, to representatives of the Kaikohe Town Hoard who met liini at Dargaville to-day. However, it was made clear that this was to be regarded as a temporary expedient until power from the State plants was made available. The deputation said that they were of the opinion that it would be from three to five years before the authority to be set up to control the supply of power for the No. 1 district would be able to supply them. Their proposal was to instal a Diesel plant for the town on the understanding that it would he disposed of when the authority for the four northern counties was functioning. Mr. Semplo said he did not think there would be the slightest trouble on that score. He would issue the necessary permit, and ho advised the deputation to proceed with the application. A condition would bo that the plant would not be in competition with the district supply authority when it was ready to supply them, and that the local plant would not be used to take up the peak load. The chairman of the Town Board, Mr. C. Cameron, said they would make the necessary financial arrangements to be in a position to dispense with their plant when State power was available.
