MR. C. J. McKENZIE'S CAREER

It is understood that Mr. C. J. McKenzie, Under-Secretary of Public "Works, 'and Enginecr-in-Chief, has tendered his resignation to the Minister to take effect from July 31. For some months, Mr. McKcnzio Iras suffered ill-health and although there has lately been improvement it is believed that ho has been recommended by his medical advisers to relinquish his position. Mr. MeKenzic was born in Dunedin 56 years ago and was educated at Otago Boys' High School. He joined the Public Works Department as an engineering cadet in 1897 and after a feiv months of office work had several years of practical experience in railway construction work in various parts of the Dominion. In 1913 lie was transferred to Wellington and two years later lie was appointed district engineer for Otago and Southland. He was promoted to the position staff engineer in Wellington in 1919 and in the following year became assistant engineer-in-chicf. On the retirement of Mr. F. W. Furkcrt in 1932 Mr. McKenzie was appointed to his present position. He was raised to the order of C.B.E. in January.
