TRAGEDY AFTER FUNERAL

MARRIEQ MAN KILLED CAR CRASHES INTO LORRY [ BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] BLENHEIM, Tuesday Tragedy overtook a party of six Wairau Valley farmers last evening when they were returning to their homes in a motor-car after attending a funeral in Blenheim. Within a couple of miles of the Wairau Valley township, on a straight, wide stretch of highway, the car, which was driven by Mr. George Gordon Davidson, collided with a lorry laden with timber. As a result of . the collision Mr. Leonard Leslie Hart, a married man with one child, was killed instantaneously, while Mr Davidson was seriously injured. Both men received fearful head injuries, whon the body of the car, a big sedan, was practically torn off tho chassis. The four other occupants had a marvellous escape, suffering only severe shock. The accident occurred just after dark. It is assumed that the driver of the car misjudged the margin necessary to pass the lorry, with tho result that tho windscreen hit the timber alongside the cab of the lorry, which was driven by Mr. Mcrvyn Prentice.
