PARKS AND RESERVES PLEA FOR PRESERVATION A plea for the preservation of t parks and reserves set aside by t 0 early leaders of the development 0 Auckland is made in the following e* tract from the New Zealand HkkaUJ of June 12, 1886: — "The founders of Auckland had t® foresight to wisely provide for su wants, but these pleasure grounds na been sadly curtailed since —have bw nibbled at, encroached upon lor varl °., purposes, under various pretexts. - last, and not too soon, the public toi called halt to this sort of thing, an now, when we find that there a already over 60,000 inhabitants in 1 town and its fast-growing suburbs, an that in a very few years Auckland wi be a great city in extent and P°P U tion, we can all realise the importan of possessing these health pi' eas *. grounds with their fine sites tor plantation and other embellish that will render them truly delight resorts."
