CRICKETERS' GUIDE

A copy of John Wisden's Cricketers' Almanack for 1936 is to hand. Special features of this year's issue are: An article by Mr. R V. Ilyder, secretary of Warwickshire County Cricket Chili—"Trials of a County Secretary"; "Twenty-five Years of Triumph"—full statistics of J. B. Hobbs on the cricket field; success of the leg-before-wicket experiment, with opinions of county captains, and a table of batsmen who have scored 15,000 runs or more, and of bowlers who have taken 1500 or m re wickets. The list of cricketers who have played in tost matches has been revised to include appearances for England against South Africa, as well as in the England versus Australia matches. In the firstclass averages for 1935, left-hand batsmen and left-arm bowlers are denoted specially. For the "five cricketers of the year" the choice is- H. B. Cameron and Bruce Mitchell (South Africa), E. R. T. Holmes (Surrey), D. Smith (Derbyshire) and A. W. Wellard (Somerset). Mr. S. J. Southerton having died Inst March, Mr. Wilfrid H. Brookes, one of his partners in the cricket reporting agency, which has been responsible for the production of 50 editions of the book, is now editor of the Almanack.
