NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOL

OPENING AT OPOTIKI PROGRESS IN EDUCATION Lbt telegraph—own correspondent] * OPOTIKI, Friday

The official opening took place this afternoon of the new technical school in Church Street, Opotiki. The ceremony was performed by Mr. A. G. Hultquist, M.P., on behalf of the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, before a large gathering. Mr. A. E. Payne, who presided, welcomed tho visitors, and the Mayor, Mr. G. S. Moody, addressed those present. Mr. Hultquist congratulated the people of Opotiki and said the school

was an important stop forward in the educational progress of the district. He looked forward to the time when they would have a fully-equipped technical school.

The Hon. A. Burns, M.L.C., a member and former chairman of the Auckland Education Board, and Mr. A. N. Macky, a member, also spoke. Mr. Hultquist then opened the doors and declared the building open. The school was afterwards thrown open for ins|>ection by the public. The new building and equipment cost about ,£2ooo.
