SOUTH AFRICAN WAR
AUCKLAND VETERANS MEET The annual reunion of the Auckland South African War Veterans' Association, held last night, was a very successful function. The roll-call, conducted by Captain W. At.well, was answered by 1(30 representatives of the 10 New Zealand contingents, Imperial, South African and Australian regiments, all wearing their decorations. The oldest veteran present was Bugler Walter Delane.v, who fought in tho Maori Wars, and another visitor was Captain Henry Raby, Auckland president of the King's Empire Veterans' Association. .Mr. W. G. Marks presided. Appropriate toasts were honoured. Colonel T. H. Dawson proposed a toast to "Kindred Associations," Captain E. H. Sharp, representing the Auckland ixoturtied Soldiers' Association, responding. "The Visitors" was proposed by Captain Atwoll, Mr. W. M. Watt (Tauranga branch) and Mr. Matt. Johnson (Gisliorne branch) replying. Colonel C. R. Spragg proposed "Tho King's Empire Veterans' Association," on whose behalf Captain Rabv responded. "Local Bodies" was proposed by Mr. D. H. Henderson, secretary of tho society, and replied to bv Mr. C. G. Maeiridoo. chairman of the Auckland Harbour Hoard. Enjoyable items were contributed by Messrs. Meldrum, B. Kenton, W. Ilickling, J. McMinn, ,1. do llose, 11. Blaekie, F. Dowman, 1. 1 . Tomni and L. Bickorton, in addition to Highland pipers. Mr. \V. Puree 11 was the accompanist. Flags of tho Auckland and Tauranga associations, symbolising tho King's and Queen's medals, and the Union jack, adorned the head table, at which were seated guests and executive members.
