"FRESH FIELDS"
.WILLIAMSON SEASON ,The young New Zealand actress, Miss Elaine Hamill, who will make her first appearance in Auckland at His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday afternoon and evening next with J. C. Williamson's comedy company in Ivor Novello's amusing and original play "Fresh Fields," is regarded as the best young artist the Australian stage has discovered in recent years. The other leading lady of tho company, Miss Ethel Morrison, is also a New Zoalander. The author of "Fresh Fields," Ivor Novello, composed the famous war 6ong "Keep the Homo Fires Burning" and as an actor-manager, with experience in London and New York, ho is an established success. Some Australian critics took exception to " Fresh Fields" when it was first staged in London, and to these Mr. Novello rep Tied: "In my comedy 'Fresh Fields' I have chosen to depict a cultured English set, living a more or less easy existence, who delight, amuse or irritate. In their lives I have introduced a purely supposititious Australian family, extreme, and no doubt just as impossible as my English types; with the object of creating amusement, and certainly not with the intention of causing annoyance to anyone " In their respective characterisations of the roles of Lady Mary and Lady Lilian, Miss Ethel Morrison and Miss Elaine Hamill, it is said, exhibit artistry of a high quality. During the brief season "The Shining Hour," "As Husbands Go" and "Night Must Fall" will also be staged.
