FEWER ORANGES

COOK ISLANDS SHIPMENT TRADERS SEEK BETTER PRICE Advice has been received in Auckland that in an attempt to secure a guaranprice for their oranges native traders on the island of Mangain, in the Cook Islands, have refused to pick their fruit for shipment to New Zealand by the Waipahi. Importers have refused to grant the price demanded, and in consequence the Waipahi will arrive at Auckland on Juno 12 with a consignment of about 8000 cases from the islands of Mauke and Aitu, instead of her usual quota of 12,000 cases. The market for oranges in Auckland is not at present over-supplied, chiefly owing to the waste which occurred in the last consignment from the Islands. The season for Jamaican oranges is over, and the first shipment of South Australian oranges since the lifting of the embargo will not arrive until June 18.
