THE FINAL DAY

SATURDAY'S WEIGHTS WINTER STEEPLES FIELD VALPEEN TOP WITH 11.8 The following handicaps for the third day of the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday have been declared by Mr. F. J. McManemin:—

AUSTRALIAN TURF KENSINGTON MEETING NEW ZEALANDERS BEATEN (Received June S, 8 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 3 At the Kensington races to-day Prendergast, Tarn o'Shanter and Odilion were unplaced in the Juvenile Handicap, King of Diamonds, Norman Conquest and Headmaster in the Flying Handicap, Prince Pombal and Collstar in the Kensington Handicap. Lovesong was unplaced in the Bunnerong Welter Mile.

STEWARDS' INQUIRY RANFURLY HANDICAP MISHAP An inquiry by the judicial committee of the Auckland Racing Club into the falling of Valmint, Hawthorn and Whirlmint at the home turn in the Ranfurly Handicap at Ellcrslie yesterday has been adjourned until Saturday.

MISHAP TO VALMINT SEVERE INJURY TO HEAD When Valmint fell in the Ranfurly Handicap at Ellerslie yesterday he severely injured his head, fracturing the bones of the face. He came back bleeding freely from both nostrils, and it will be necessary for him to have a good rest before he will be able to do any further racing. The mishap to Valmint is unfortunate for his owner, Mn B. Goldwater, and his trainer, J. E. Thorpe, more especially as he is partial to winter conditions and was in good racing trim.
