RETURN ON INVESTMENTS Following is a list of yesterday's transactions on tho New Zealand Stock Exchanges and the yield at the quoted price. Tho exchango premium on dividends payable in sterling is included. The yield on 4 per cent Government loans includes redemption, and on 3i per cent loans is for interest alono, covering only tho tax-free period.

WORLD TRADE INCREASE IN' GOLD VALUE GREAT BRITAIN IN THE LEAD The improvement in world trade registered during tho last quarter of 1935 Jbas been continued into the present year, according to the League of Nations bulletin or statistics. The gold value of world trade for February, 1936, was 8.4 per cent higher than in February, 1935. It was 4.1 per cent less tiban in January, 1936, but. a' decrease between Januarv and February is normal. The decrease in the corresponding period of 1935 was 6.8 per cent. The increase in value compared with 'last year is due mainly to an increase of about 5 per cent in gold prices, , The* 12 most important trading countries (excluding Italy, for which complete statistics are not available), accounted for 62.3 per cent of th« total world trade (also excluding Italy), compared with 65 per cent in 1929. The sliaro of the smaller trading countries thus shows a slight increase. In these 12 leading countries Great Britain was first with 14.2 per cent of the total world trade, followed United States with 11 per cent. In lJiy the United States led by 14.2 per cent, followed by Great Britain with 13.4 per cent. Since then, with the exception of 1931, when tho United States also led. Great Britain has always had the luwost share in world trade. Germany in 1935 took tho third *place with 8.7 p<ir cent and also in 1929, though in that year her proportion was 9.6 per cent. France was fourth 111 both years with 6.2 per cent in 1935, compared with 6.4 per cent in 1929. Progress had been made by Japan, now bracketed fifth with Canada at 3.6 per cent. In 1929 Japan was seventh, having outdistanced India, which has fallen to the eighth place. South Africa, which in 191:29 was not even in the first 12 of the world's chief trading States, occupied the 10th -placo in 1935, her sharo being 2.2 per cent. Tho total of tne world's visible central gold reserves, excluding Ihosa of Russia and Italy, increased during the first quarter of 1936 by 79,000,000 gold dollars.
