SCOPE OP AWARDS
STOREMEN AND PACKERS MARKET EMPLOYEES' POSITION It is apparent that market employees generally aro not unanimous on the question whether all types of labour in the industry should be represented by the Market Employees' Guild, which it is proposed should register, Bubject to the consent of the Minister of Labour, as sin industrial union. Many drivers, storeiuen and packers in the markets are working under awards covering their calling generally, but a source of discontent is that when an award was registered covering storemen and packers, one large firm employing much of this class of labour was excluded. This fact, according to a member of the Storemen and Packers' "Union, has hardened a determination to bring all storemen and packers under tho existing award. The question of the exemptions of firms from awards, either by intention or from neglect, is one that is stated to be receiving much attention from trade union interests just at present, and it is likely that the Arbitration Court will be called upon in a good number of cases to add parties to awards.
