NORTHCOTE ESTIMATES
SAME RATES AS LAST YEAR The estimates of'receipts and expenditure for the ensuing financial year were adopted by the Northcote Borough Council last night. These necessitate the 6ame total rates as last year, Is Id in the pound on the unimproved value, including Id for water. The expenditure allowed for in the general account iB £15,750. Approval was given to proposed reductions in passenger fares by the Waitematft Bus and Transport Company, Limited. The secretary of the company, Mr. A. \V. Christmas, wrote that the reductions amounted to a substantia) decrease in bus revenue, and he made it clear that the alterations were sub« ject to further revision should pending legislation regarding wages and working conditions make it necessary to reinstate the fares hitherto charged, The consulting engineer, Mr. A. Greville Walker, reported that the contractors, Messrß. Matthews and Kirkby. had made very good progress on the Onewa Road reconstruction work. It wan agreed to continue with the No. 5 unemployment relief scheme at the now scale of wages.
