IMPROVEMENT IN LONDON MANY WHITSUN EXCURSIONS LONDON, June 1 After the coldest Whitsun Eve for 29 years, following the coldest. Easter of this century, the weather unproved for the Bank Holiday to-day. Crowds of people awoke to find a sunny morning and rushed to the sea and country. Hundreds oi: long-distance excursions were run, but the trains bound for centres from which to make country rambles 20 or 30 miles from London were the most crowded.

The roads on Saturday and Sunday were the quietest for years for this period, but all cars iseemed to be otit to-day. There was plenty of sport, including 11 first-class cricket matches/
