WAIKATO SHOW

INFLUX OF VISITOBS

TRAINS FROM THE SOUTH RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Sunday With continued fine weather the Waikato Winter Show is attracting record crowds, the main streets in the town being lined with parked cars all day and the footpaths thronged with visitors. With tho receipts at tho door for the first four days showing an increase of £255 over last year, there is every prospect that tho final figure will establish another record. Yesterday afternoon and evening the show buildings were crowded, over 100 visitors from Wellington having arrived by the week-end excursion train to Auckland. Bookings at hotels and boarding houses havo been unusually heavy, some establishments having to turn visitors away. Exhibition Attractions Special trains will arrive from To Kuiti and Taumarunui to-morrow, bringing a further influx of visitors. Attractions include balancing and trapeze work in the Bledisloe Hall by the Two Colinos, a display by Mrs. K. O'Sullivan, "Tho Modern Grandmother," and in the evening a demonstration by the pupils of Miss Phyllis Torpy. The poultry show will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Commenting yesterday on the vocal and instrumental classes, the judge, Mr. John Tait, said although there was nothing outstanding in the ladies' vocal section the sopranos were a good class. There were some fine., fresh voices showing evidence of good training. The main defect was lack of resonance. He was pleased to hear a number of men's voices, which were usually conspicuous by their absence. The piano classes were good, giving evidence of correct teaching. A high opinion of the standard of operatic dancing was expressed by the judge, Mrs. Tabor Gregory. She considered the competitions were an excellent means of unearthing and fostering talent, encouraging pupils to make greater efforts for perfection. She also commented on the attention and interest which had been shown by the audiences.
