"NOT ENOUGH DOCTORS"
RANGITAIKI PLAINS AREA FURTHER PROVISION. URGED [bx telegraph—OWN correspondent] V VTHAKATANE, Thursday A deputation from the Awateri Women's Division of the Farmers' "Union waited on the County Council with a view to the possibilities of either forming a medical club in Whakatane or the engaging of a fourth doctor to serve the needs of the people on the Ranjgitaiki Plains. It was stated that Dr. J. L. Fraserhurst was recently appointed superintendent of the Whakatane Hospital, and Dr. Wadmore being ill, the whole of the work on the plains had to be attended to by Dr. Appleby. Mr. McCready said that doctors had called at his residence five hours' *late owing to their being so busy. The long distances doctors had to travel on the plains was another problem which caufeed dissatisfaction. Charges to country patients were in accordance liigher.**than they should be. Mr. McCready said that one "person to whom wo doctors had been called was charged £l6 16s for two hours' work. The possibility of an epidemic breaking out on the plains caused much alarm, as the service necessary would not be available. It was' resolved that the council express . its, sympathy, and that it would be inclined to form a committee to go into the matter further.
