DAVIS CUP CONTEST

AUSTRALIANS IN PRACTICE CRAWFORD SHOWS BEST FORM (Received May 27. 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 26 In the course of the Australian Davis Cup team's practice to-day, Crawford showed his finest form of the training period at Germantown in taking two sets from McGrath. He had more power in his game than previously, and obtained a good speed in his service stroke. His ground strokes had considerable depth, and much of the time McGrath was playing from behind the base line. His backhand strokes were also firm and accurate.

Quist and Sproule engaged in several practice sets this morning, and tomorrow both the Australians and the Americans will work in the grandstand centre court.

The members of the Australian Davis Cup team arrived in Philadelphia on May 10 from Pittsburg and established their headquarters at the Germantown Cricket Club's ground. fhe matches with America will commence next Saturday. A tremendous amount of interest developed in advance, and the seating accommodation has been enlarged. The American team established its headquarters at the Merion Cricket Club'B grounds.
