REPORT FOR THE YEAR RESEARCH ON WATER FOWL —7— A joint research committee representing the Auckland Zoological Society and the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, and comprising Messrs. R. A. Falla, J. Dobson and M. E. Fitzgerald, is investigating the natural habits of grey duck and other water fowl. This information is given in the annual report of the Zoological Society for presentation at the annual meeting on Thursday. The joint research committee is communicating with observers with a view to preparing a report for both societies. Tho annual report further states that in October last the society issued bulletin No. 2, which contained articles on "The Tuatara," by R. A. Falla, and "Frogs in New Zealand,"'by Gilbert Archey. Inquiries for the society's bulletins had been received from far infield. While practically no work was undertaken in the year in tho preparation of now films, 200 ft. of film, of the golden eagle had been added to the society's stock of films through the courtesy of Mr. H. T. Goldie. Applications for the use of the society's iilms for screening by various organisations had been. acceded to, and wherever shown the films wore appreciated. The membership of tho society 116W stood at 143, and the society had a cash balance at the end of the financial year of £l3O 14g Id, compared with £124 13s 3d at the end of the previous year. The board of managers recorded with regret the death in August last of Mr. L. T. Griffin, the society's honorary zoologist, who was a foundation member of the society. His work for tho Auckland Zoological Park would long -be remembered.
