BRITAIN'S SUPERB SHIP

INITIAL ATLANTIC VOYAGE A NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT The Queen Mary, the greatest merchant vessel ever built on British stocks, goes to sea as a North Atlantic liner to-morrow. Her only possible rival is the French liner Normandie, a slightly larger vessel, but not necessarily a better. It is presumed that the Queen Mary has enough speed to capture the blue riband for Britain, but that is not the dominant question. The purpose of the Cunard-White Star Line, amalgamated for the purpose, is to run a weekly Cherbourg-Southampton-New York service by two ships# The second ship of the partnership has still to be built. State money helped to put the Queen Mary on the water. Her trials have justified all expectations. She starts on her service with every factor in her favour.
