FRENCH SLOOP

VISIT TO AUCKLAND ARRIVAL THIS MORN4NG PROGRAMME IN DOUBT As a result of mating stormy weather, the French war , sloop Savorgnan de Brazza, which is coming to Auckland for the second time in three years, advised early yesterday that she would arrive fronr Noumea, New Caledonia, at one o'clock this afternoon instead of 10 o'clock this morning. Early this morning, however, a wireless message was received stating that the sloop would reach port at S a.m. The vessel, which is making its annual Pacific cruise, will berth at Queen s Wharf, and will probably go into dock for overhaul on Thursday and Friday, leaving for Wellington, on June 2 or 3. The presumed late arrival of the Savorgnan de Brazza resulted in some changes in the programme of entertainment arranged for Commander L. llobert and his officers. The list of functions set down for to-day was transferred to to-morrow. It is' not known whether the original programme will now be adhered to. On Sunday the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, will entertain Commander llobert, the French Consul in Auckland, M. Edouard Joubert, and four officers, at afternoon tea. The president of the Navy League, Commander C. H. T. Palmer, will tender a luncheon to Commander llobert and' three officers at the Officers' Club on Monday, and Mr. Walter F. Boyle, American Consul, and dean of the Consular Corps, will entertain two officers at the Northern Club. Several entertainments have also been arranged for the petty officers and men of the Savorgnan de Brazza. A dance organised by the Navy League will be held in the rooms of the Catholic Women's Club to-night, and there will be a social and dance, arranged by the Mercantile Auxiliary- Club, in the rooms of the Overseas League, tomorrow night. The Devonport subbranch of the Navy League will 'hold a dance for the men on Thursday night. The Seamen's Institute has made arrangements for entertaining the men during the remainder of their stay in Auckland. They will be taken for trips, round the city and suburbs on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and there will be a dance at the rooms of the Seamen's Institute on Saturday night, an exhibition of motion pictures of New Zealand on Sunday, and an entertainment and concert on Monday. The officers of the Savorgnan de Brazza are: —Commander L. Robert, Lieutenant-Commander J. de Rogier, Lieutenants A. J. Goua, G. M; Mille, R. P. M. Bozec, M. J. M. E. Moley, R. C. E. Claeyssen and P. M. X. Marraud; Sub-Lieutenants B. F. A. P. Lagrand and R. J. M Guerin; EngineerCommander R. Fondadouze, Paymaster A. C. About, and Dr. A. E. H. Bellonne.
