PROPOSED HOURS FOR SHOPS LEMON OIL INDUSTRY PLAN [by TELEGRAPH—OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Wednesday Reference was made by Mr. R. Mann at a meeting of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce to the new legislation affecting shops and offices. Mr. Mann suggested that it would be advisable for the chamber to call a public meeting of traders so as to fix opening, and closing hours of business premises. He moved that the chamber should recommend to traders that business premises be open from 8.30 a.m. to 5.15 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; Wednesday, 8.30 a.m. to noon, and Saturday 8.30 am. to 8 p.m. After discussion it was decided that the executive consider Mr. Mann's proposal and submit a report to the next meeting of the chamber. Mr. H.- E. C. Carter, said Italy was the chief supplier of lemon oil to the Old Country, and he believed there an excellent opportunity for the Dominion to enter the industry, He moved that the Department of Agriculture be asked to consider taking the initial steps with the view to establishing the lemon oil industry in this district. The motion was carried.

Mr. 0. H. Burnett, M.P., wrote forwarding a letter from the PostmasterGeneral, the Hon. F. Jones, as follows: —"With' reference to the representations you made to me regarding the desirability of acquiring a more central site at Tauranga on which to erect a new post oflice building, negotiations are in progress at present and I will advise you of the result as soon as they are finalised."

Mr. F. N. Christian stated that Mr. S. H. MacDougall had resigned from the Tauranga County Council and had given long and faithful service both on the County Council and other local bodies. The meeting placed on record its appreciation of Mr. MacDougall's services to the district.

A motion expressing appreciation of tho long services of tho Hon. B. C. Rnbbins as secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, and congratulating him on his appointment to the Legislative Council, was carried.
