GRAMMAR OLD BOYS
ASSOCIATION'S YEAR A successful year's activity is shown in the report of the Auckland Grammar School Old Boys' Association which will be presented at the annual meeting to be held next Thursday. "The notable event of the year," stated the report, "was the complimentary dinner tendered to the retiring headmaster, Mr. H. J. D. Mahon. The attendance numbered 145 old boys, including the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. Ernest Davis, and 14 past presidents."
The executive of the association has been preparing proposals for the construction of a swimming bath at the school. An anonymous gift of £SO toward the project has been received and it is hoped tliat when the scheme is finalised it will receive the full support of the old boys. The increased activity of the association during the past 12 months entailed a heavier burden on finances, and the year concluded with a substantial deficit. The recent increase in the subscription resulted in a fall in the membership.
Considerable success was achieved by the association's tennis in various branches of sport and athletics. Owing to lack of support, the swimming and life-saving club has had to temporarily curtail its activities and has can celled its affiliation with the swimming association.
