YOUTH'S MANY THEFTS
ESCAPE FROM GAOL SENTENCED TO BORSTAL [by TELKGRArH OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHAKATANE, Thursday An Opotiki youth, 17 years of age, appeared before the Children's Court on numerous charges of theft. He stole £2O belonging to his father, left his home, and obtained work at Awakeri.
While at Awakeri accused stole articles of jewellery, including diamond rings and brooches. He then secured employment on a baker's delivery van, and while his employer was delivering bread he stole £3 out of a roll of 10 one-pound notes.
Accused was convicted and sentenced to a term of three years at the Borstal Institute at Invercargill. While in gaol at Whakatane the lad escaped, but was captured a few hours later by the police.
