COATES [BT TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Wednesday The opening of the second reading debate on the Primary Products Marketing Bill, with notable speeches by the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash, /and by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates (Opposition —Kaipara), was the outstanding feature of proceedings in the Bouse of Representatives to-day. The debate occupied the whole of the evening sitting. All the public galleries were crowded, and the four speeches—the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and-Mr. H. Atmore (Indopendant —Nelson) weco the other gjwakers —were broadcast. The Opposition attack on Lie bill, which is the instrument for the Government's guaranteed price scheme, was strongly led by Mr. Coates, who described the measure as the " Primary Products Pirating Bill," and said that it disc'osed alarming progress toward complete socialisation. The proceedings in the afternoon were somewhat dull. The announcement that the Parliamentary licensing poll had re- / suited in an overwhelming majority in favour of the retention of the sale of liquor " within the precincts of Parliament Buildings " was greeted with smiles of pleasure from various quarters. Then the House spent two hours on a consideration of Ministerial replies , to members' questions, and before the dinner adjournment the second reading debate on the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill was resumed for a brief period. The House rose at 10.30 o'clock tonight and will meet again to-morrow afternoon. However, the debate on the Primary Products Marketing Bill will not be continued until the evening, when the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. W. Lee Martin, who collaborated with Mr. Nash in framing the measure, will be the principal Government speaker There will be six speeches of half an hour each to-morrow night, and all will be broadcast
