THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE FIRMING IN VALUES • / There was a marked firming in values jn the investment market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Several good gains were made and in a large number of sales there were very few declines. Government loans were active. Selling rates were higher, with tho exception of the 1946 and 1955 i percent stocks, which both lost 5s on ingAfter a spell of dullness, the banking section showed a brighter tone. There was a further sale of Bank of Australasias at current levels. Nationals of New Zealand also were transferred unchanged. There was a sale of New South Wales, Sydney register, at £33 12s 6d, a drop of 5s on the last transaction in February. A lifting of offers by buyers of South British enabled a sale to be made at 91s 6d, a rise of 2s on the last transfer made before the Easter holidays. Industrials were again prominent and , levels all round were higher. A feature of this section was the sharp rise of 4s 9d in Australian Glass shares in a transaction .at SSs. New Zealand Breweries t- recovered 3d on sale at 52s 3d. Wilsons Cements were , dealt in 6d higher at - 43s 6d. The oiily decline in this group was a fall of 3d in a salo of New Zealand Refrigerating (10s paid) at 9s 6d. Following on an explanatory circular .issued by the directors, K.D.V. Boxes (cont.) showed-, an immediate firming and after two sales unchanged at 3s 9d, moved up 3d to 4s. Levels for Woolworths (N.Z.) rose by 5s to £6, btft later dropped back to £5 16s.
