STRANDING OF SHIP
RECENT WHANGAREI MISHAP HARBOUR BOARD DISCUSSION [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Tuesday The recent stranding of the steamer Salvus iii Whangarei Harbour caused a keen discussion at the last meeting of the Whangarei Harbour Board. After the harbourmaster, Mr. W. M. Fraser, had submitted a report on the matter, Mr. H. E. Hewlett said he would like to know what expenses had been incurred in refloating the ship. Mr. Fraser said ho did not know at present. He had since arranged to place warning buoys at the locality. Mr. Hewlett said the matter was likely to do harm to the port. He moved that the pilot attend the next meeting of the board and " report fully on the mishap. Mr. K. Stevens: This is only the second decent-sized ship to come to Kioreroa, and look what happens. Mr. Hewlett: I would like to ask the harbourmaster if the Marine Department is taking any action. Mr. Fraser: No. It is not usual where a boat is not damaged. Mr. Hewlett's motion was carried.
