FAT STOCK SALES

PRICES AT WESTFIELD GOOD DEMAND FOR SHEEP PIG MARKET VERY FIRM Ox beef was in short supply at the weekly Westfield fat.- stock sale yesterday, there being less than 100 steers in a total yarding of 600 cattle. Although the quality was only fair bidding was brisk for good lines and last week's reduced rates were easily maintained. Cows and heifers, a high proportion of which were of dairy types, were dull of sale and, although quotations remained unaltered, the market was inclined to be easier. The calf yarding was a very full one and contained few of outstanding quality. Good runners and heavy vealers were in demand, but all inferior calves and those in tho late sale wero easier. An increased offering of sheep included a large number of. prime wethers. Competition was bright throughout and values were fully tip to those at last week's sale. Ewes were also in demand at late rates and a few maiden ewes made to 20s 6d. Lambs sold well, there being an improving tendency. Fat pigs wero again plentiful and a very healthy demand ruled, baconers being, very firm at from 5d to 5Ad per lb., while porkers, especially those in the mediumweights, reacted to a rise in schedule, selling freely at from 5 itl to per lb. The supply of store pigs was in excess of requirements with the falling off of dairy products and buyers were inactive.
