ORIENT LINE PETITION
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE AIR TRANSPORT SERVICES (Received April 19. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. April 18 An official of the Orient Lino told a representative of the Australian Associated Pre,ss that- there were no immediate plans for establishing an air line or purchasing aeroplanes. An application it had made to the High Court was merely precautionary because everybody was travelling by air to-day. A previous report had stated that the Orient Line had petitioned the High Court for confirmation of the alteration of its memorandum of association to enable it to establish air transport services and to acquire aircraft.
The petition recalled Sir Alan Anderson's speech at the Orient Line's annual meeting in December, when he referred to the necessity of co-operation between sea and air interests if the Union Jack was to be flown on the main air routes as well as on the ocean.
